Research Gist
This prospective, randomized, double-blind, placebo-controlled pilot study evaluated KSM-66 ashwagandha root extract in 50 adults with mild cognitive impairment. Participants took either 300 mg of the extract twice daily or a placebo for eight weeks. Memory and cognitive function were measured with standardized assessments at the start and end of the study. The ashwagandha group showed significant improvements over placebo in both immediate and general memory. Gains were also seen in executive function, sustained attention and information-processing speed. The extract was well tolerated across the study period. The trial is notable because it used KSM-66, the same branded extract found in Cogni Anu.
Key Learnings
- Immediate and general memory improved significantly compared with placebo.
- Executive function and sustained attention also showed improvement.
- Information-processing speed was faster in the ashwagandha group.
- The study used the KSM-66 standardized extract, at 300 mg twice daily for eight weeks.
- This was a small pilot trial of 50 adults with mild cognitive impairment — larger studies are needed to confirm the findings.
