Research Gist

This study examined several plant sources traditionally sold as Shankhpushpi and assessed their activity on the nervous system. Rodent testing covered three areas: memory performance, anxiety-related behaviour, and general central nervous system activity. Convolvulus pluricaulis, the species used in Parkin Anu, showed memory-enhancing effects alongside anxiolytic and CNS-calming activity. The calming profile is consistent with Shankhpushpi's classical description as a nervine tonic. This research supports its inclusion for nervous-system balance rather than for movement-related function.

Key Learnings

  • Convolvulus pluricaulis demonstrated measurable anxiolytic activity in rodent testing.
  • CNS-calming effects were observed, supporting its classical nervine-tonic description.
  • Memory-enhancing activity was also recorded in the same testing battery.
  • The study compared multiple plant sources sold under the same common name.
  • This is rodent research addressing nervous-system calm, not movement-related function.
